While women’s football was originally introduced in Nigeria in the latter part of the 1970s, he didn’t really take off in terms of popularity until 1991 when Nigerians began become interested. Many say the reason for this change was in the quality of the game played by super Falcons which was then led by Coach Paul Hamilton. This brought the super Falcons to the very first edition of the women’s World Cup which took place in China that same year. After this time, the super Falcons went on to play in every single edition of the World Cup ever since that year, making it to the quarterfinals in the US during the 1999 edition. Of course, this was in addition to totally dominating the all women’s game in Africa and winning every edition any African women’s championship, except for one, ever since 1998.
In recent years, women’s football has accumulated quite a large fan base. And it is taking off in countries all over the world. Fans know that the super Falcons help make this possible by putting women’s football on the map. With that being said. It is of popular opinion that the junior national teams have assisted in keeping women’s football popular, even though super Falcons first brought beginning to fame. Both the flamingos and the falcon at have done well in their most recent outings, reaching not only the final but also the quarterfinals in both U-17 and the U-20 World Cups.
